We’re excited to begin Week 5 of our Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) journey! It’s been a great start to the year, and we’re looking forward to continuing to grow together. Our focus next week will be on being kind by showing empathy. Students will learn what it means to recognize and understand what others may be going through, and how to truly listen to understand. We encourage you to take a moment to talk with your child about how they can show empathy at school—whether it’s offering a kind word, being a good listener, or supporting a classmate who’s having a tough day. Together, we can help our students build a more compassionate and caring school community!

Next week, our Social Emotional Learning (SEL) focus is being kind through helping and supporting others. We’ll be talking about how small acts of kindness—like offering help, encouraging a friend, or showing patience—can make a big difference.
Please take a moment to talk with your student about ways they can show kindness at school and at home. Encourage them to look for opportunities to compliment others, lend a hand, advocate for someone who needs support, and practice patience. SEL Week #10: Being Safe and In Control Next week in Social and Emotional Learning (SEL), our focus will be on being safe by staying in control of our bodies and objects. Students will learn to use materials appropriately, keep hands and feet to themselves, and walk safely in the classroom and hallways. These lessons help everyone feel comfortable and supported in our learning space. Families are encouraged to continue the conversation at home! Ask your child how they can be safe at school, at home, and in the community.

Last week, we focused on responsibility as part of our SEL (Social-Emotional Learning) program. Students practiced being responsible learners by coming to school prepared, asking and answering questions, staying organized, and setting and monitoring their goals. We’re proud of their efforts and growth!
We encourage you to talk with your child about what they learned last week. When students practice these skills at home as well as at school, it strengthens their understanding and helps them build lifelong habits.

This week in SEL, our focus will be on being respectful by celebrating the differences of others. Each class will be reading a book that highlights the importance of understanding and appreciating what makes us unique.
To help continue the conversation at home I’ve included a few questions in the attachment that you can discuss with your child. These are the same types of questions your student will be exploring during class this week:

As we enter Week 38, our Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) focus is responsibility through problem-solving. Students are learning to solve small problems independently, seek help when facing bigger challenges, and advocate for themselves.
This weekend, we encourage you to talk with your child about how they can be responsible by solving problems at school. Discuss ways they can handle conflicts with peers, ask for help from a teacher when needed, and take ownership of their actions in the classroom. These conversations help build confidence and important life skills.
Thank you for your support!
