Families:
Today, 01/20/26, we had a SECURE & TEACH drill following our comprehensive safety plan. The health and safety of our students and staff is a top priority for Kelso School District. Please talk with your child/children about a potential threat of harm outside the school and the importance of returning indoors promptly, remaining in place, and continuing classroom activities while the exterior is secured.
SECURE & TEACH (SRP Video 3 - Secure)
Reminder that we practice safety drills each month to help ensure the preparation of staff and students in the case of a real emergency. These drills include: earthquake, hold, secure & teach, lockdown, shelter in place, and evacuation. You can help your child reflect upon the drill by asking the following questions at home after you have received the memo from the office that we had a drill:
“Why does Dr. Owens have you practice drills every month at Carrolls?”
"Can you tell me about the emergency drill you had at school today? What did you learn and what were the steps you were supposed to take?"
"How did you feel during the drill? Why? What would help you feel more prepared, if anything?"
"What are some things we can do at home to make sure we're prepared for emergencies, just like you practice at school?"
