A little clay, a lot of creativity, and 44 handmade bowls are making a difference in our community!
Kelso High School Advanced Ceramics students put their artistic talents to work for a great cause, creating and donating 44 handcrafted bowls for The Salvation Army's Empty Bowl fundraiser, held October 29.
The project began last school year when The Salvation Army invited KHS to participate. Students enthusiastically took on the challenge, transforming lumps of clay into beautiful, one-of-a-kind bowls—all in support of neighbors in need.
Much of the work on the potter's wheel was completed by student Corben Mast (class of 2026), who helped bring the bowls to life. From there, students across two school years added their creative touches through glazing, including members of the Class of 2026 and current students Brianna "Bree" Wesemann, Ella Risner, Angela Hites, and Lily McDonald.
The finished collection represents more than hours of craftsmanship. It's a collaboration spanning graduating classes, a partnership with a community organization, and a reminder that even something as simple as a handmade bowl can help make a meaningful difference.
