As part of Kelso School Districts "Whole Child Initiative", nearly 250 Kelso secondary students from Coweeman Middle School, Huntington Middle School and Kelso High School participated this week in Providence Heart Institutes "Play Smart" program.
Play Smart, provides free heart screenings for youths ages 12 to 18, which include:
- Blood pressure measurement
- Electrocardiogram
- Echo-cardiogram, if needed
Play Smart is staffed by a team of highly-trained cardiac professionals and cardiologists, led by medical director, James Beckerman, MD. Their team of volunteers screened eligible students between the ages of 12 and 18, for potentially dangerous heart conditions.
The Kelso School District would like to thank Providence Heart Institute and their team of volunteers for providing this service to our Kelso students for the second year in a row! We would also like to recognize and honor the hard work of our Kelso Health Care Team for organizing this special event; Stephanie Toms (KSD Nurse), Nicole Nickel (KHS Health Care Specialist), Katie Gardner (CMS Health Care Specialist) and Renee Perrine Miller (HMS Health Care Specialist).
You can learn more about the Play Smart program here. If your student did not participate in this years screening, we will be offering the program next year for eligible secondary students on January 28th and 29th, 2021. Look for registration information next fall!
