SKYWARD/FAMILY ACCESS

ABOUT FAMILY ACCESS

Family Access is a web-based tool that allows parents and guardians access to student information, such as attendance, discipline, health and vaccination information, and student and family demographics. In some cases, you will also be able to see grades, classroom assignments, and classroom messages.

Not all Kelso schools are using all features of Family Access at this time, and not all teachers are using the online grade book.

Family Access is provided free as a service of Kelso School District. Your use of the Family Access website is voluntary. For security reasons, please contact your student’s school for information and to get your username and password to access this service.

We welcome you to Family Access and hope you will find this application an important part of your ongoing relationship with Kelso Public Schools.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Why Should I use Family Access?
Family Access is a web-based tool designed to enhance parent/guardian and school communication.

Does Family Access cost money or is there a fee that I have to pay?
Family Access is provided free as a service of Kelso School District.

Why do I pick up my password and user name at my child’s school?
We request that all parents and guardians pick up their password and user name at your child’s school for security reasons. It is important that those parents responsible for educational decision making receive the correct password and user name. Passwords sent home with students, despite our best intentions could be misplaced or become compromised in some way.

Can other people see my child’s personal information on Family Access?
Family Access is password protected. As long as you keep your password safe it is highly unlikely that anyone else will be able to access or view your child’s personal information.

I can’t get Family Access to work on my computer. What should I do?
Family Access is a web based product that should work on your computer like any other web based application, such as Safari or Internet Explorer. You may have to disable pop-up blockers for this site to work properly. Kelso School District cannot provide support for off-site technology.

When I am logged in to Family Access why do I lose my connection after three to five minutes?
Family Access has a default security setting that will terminate your connection if your computer is idle for longer than three to five minutes. This feature is designed to protect against unauthorized access and cannot be changed.

Are all of Kelso’s schools on Family Access?
Each school provides Family Access as a service to parents and guardians, but the information provided by each school will vary depending on the age of the student and the type of information available. For instance, parents of elementary school students won’t have access to grades because most elementary teachers do not use the Skyward gradebook.

I have forgotten my user name and/or lost my password. What should I do?
On the Family Access site, there is a “Forgot your login or password?” link which will prompt you for your e-mail address. Your login information will be sent to your e-mail account. If this does not work, please resubmit an application through the office at your child’s school.

With all the talk about Internet safety and security, how do I know Family Access is safe?
Family Access uses Secured Socket Layer (SSL) encryption as the security layer for data presented on the Web. This is the same encryption system used by sites that accept credit card numbers and other personal data that must be secure. The District’s Family Access Administrator is responsible for setting security and access to student records as determined by District procedure. Each individual, whether student, parent, or staff member, must be given a user name and password and be designated as a member of a household linked to a student in order to view Family Access information.
