SERVICE LEARNING REQUIREMENT
Loowit students are expected to engage in service learning and complete 30 hours of community service with an approved organization per trimester. These service learning experiences benefit students in a variety of ways, including:
- Project-based experiences with real-world impact
- Real-world and work environment skill development, including the identification of needs, taking initiative to address needs, and collaboration with others in a variety of settings
- Connecting with their local, regional, and national communities
- Hands-on civics education
- Character and teamwork development
- Career exploration
- Networking with companies, opening doors for future learning, training, and work opportunities
**Because service learning is a central feature of Loowit High School's educational experience and students, staff, and organizations depend on one another, students who fail to meet the 30-hour requirements may be un-enrolled from Loowit.**
- We take responsibility for our own behavior, needs, and progress by being on-task and communicating productively.
- We acknowledge communication from others and respond appropriately.
- We treat others, ourselves, and property with respect.
Expectations for Students
- Maximize use of instructional time by being on-task for academic work or other tasks as assigned. On-task work means that you have appropriate resources out (Chromebook, Odysseyware, notebook, writing utensil, etc.) and are actively engaged in the task at hand.
- Advocate for yourself and do not waste time. If you get stuck, are confused, or are struggling, ask for help. If you cannot get help at that moment, keep trying or change to a different task until you can get the help you need.
- Communicate about appropriate topics at appropriate times at an appropriate volume using appropriate language.
- Play an active role in your education and environment. Each of us contributes to our community, so ensure that your contribution is a positive one for yourself and others.
- Be flexible and consistent.
- Students are expected to be in the Loowit area of the building in an appropriate location for the task at hand.
- Students who need a quiet space to work and can do so independently may request to work in the KVA area.
- Students must have a pass be in any other areas, including the kitchen, outside,
- Students must move when directed to do so.
- The end of the campus is marked by the gate. Students may not leave campus unless:
- They are going directly to or coming from a course at KHS
- They have an appropriate pass
- They are escorted by an adult
- Are otherwise directed by staff (e.g. emergencies, grab something from a parent)
- Students are permitted to be on-campus in any area except KVA during lunchtime.
- The kitchen must be clean at least 5 minutes prior to the end of lunch, to be checked and approved by a staff member.
- Students who need a lunch from KHS will be escorted to the lunchroom by a staff member and return as soon as they have their food (but no sooner than the beginning of the KHS lunch period). These students may not stay at KHS unless their next class is located at KHS. Students visiting the lunchroom during lunch will take any trays from prior day(s) with them.
- Loowit staff is not responsible for KVA students, so KVA students may not accompany Loowit students to lunch regardless of whether or not they need to get food. If they are in the lunchroom at the same time, they must remain separate from the Loowit group.
Students are expected to use language appropriate for professional workplace, including avoiding vulgar or inappropriate topics. Thre use of such language will be handled on a case by case basis.
owever, there is a zero tolerance policy for discriminatory language. This includes slurs, racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic, xenophobic, or any other language or expression discriminatory in nature. In order to ensure all students are able to learn in a safe and equitable environment, students who use such language may be temporarily or permanently removed.

- Tops must have straps
- Bottoms must have a minimum of 3-4 inch inseam
- The entire area from armpit to armpit and to the bottom of 3-4 inch inseam on bottoms must be covered
- Any words or images on clothing must adhere to the Language policy.
