- STOP Coalition Hospitality Workgroup

The STOP Coalition Hospitality Workgroup formed in partnership with the WSLCB. The workgroup consists of Kelso business owners, alcohol distributors Stein and Maletis, and members of the STOP Coalition including parents, educators, law enforcement, and prevention partners. The alcohol awareness campaign features large football-themed posters addressing underage drinking and how parents are the #1 influence on whether teens choose to drink.

The posters will be displayed in all 208 liquor licensees in Cowlitz County. Posters will be distributed by Stein and Maletis distributors, members of the Hospitality Workgroup. In addition, the STOP Coalition membership will work to display the posters throughout schools and businesses in Cowlitz County. “This is a great opportunity for the STOP Coalition to engage in the community.” Elaine Cockrell Principal Huntington Middle School.

The alcohol awareness campaign is the first project for this group, who are committed to supporting a healthy community in Kelso and Cowlitz County. “The STOP Coalition is to be commended for encouraging this unique partnership of business owners and prevention partners,” said Tony Masias, WSLCB Alcohol Awareness Program Manager. “The Coalition is committed to supporting local businesses, creating awareness, and enforcing liquor laws. It’s pretty amazing and we are proud to be a part of this effort.” Dan Dale, host of the group’s meetings is the owner of The River Casino in Kelso; he says, “We are excited to be a part of this group. We have always supported awareness efforts in our community and I think it is a great idea to get businesses involved in the effort.”

In August 2008 the STOP Coalition developed a partnership with the WA Liquor Control Board.  Tony Masias, LCB Alcohol Awareness Manager led the coalition in developing a Hospitality Workgroup.  The workgroup consists of law enforcement, liquor licensees, liquor distributors, community prevention partners, Kelso School Administrators, and STOP Coalition Leadership.  The intention of the group is to create a partnership to enforce underage drinking laws in Kelso, and support the goal of the coalition in creating a healthy community for children and families of Kelso.
