The devastating loss of Deputy Justin DeRosier is sharply felt in the Kelso community. In honor of his service being held in Portland, Oregon, at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, April 24; Kelso schools will be closed that day to allow teachers, staff and students the opportunity to attend. The district administrative office will remain open.

The missed school day will be made up by every school in the district, with the exception of Wallace Elementary, on Friday, June 14; making that the last day of school for 2018-19.  Wallace Elementary will make up the day on Monday, June 3; keeping the last day of school for Wallace Friday, June 21.

Kelso High School parent/teacher conferences that were scheduled for Wednesday, April 24, will be rescheduled for Wednesday, May 8, from 6:00 – 8:00 pm. Conferences that are scheduled for Tuesday, April 23 will remain from 1:00 to 3:00 pm.

Early Dismissal for Parent/Teacher Conferences: April 23rd & May 8th*

We will be having our last round of Parent Teacher Conferences this month. Parents can choose between afternoon or evening sessions. School will be let out at 1:00 on both of these days.

April 23: 1:00 PM Dismissal
Conference 1:00-3:00 PM

May 8th*:  1:00 PM Dismissal
Conference 6:00-8:00 PM

Summer Job Opportunity for Seniors

Mount St. Helens Visitor Center
Are you a student or recent graduate? Do you like talking to people? Do you have a passion for the natural world? Do you enjoy working outside?
This is a great opportunity for those interested in learning about the field of interpretation through hands-on experience. This is your chance to explore the role of an Assistant Parks Interpreter while volunteering with Washington State Parks and the United States Forest Service at two busy visitor Centers situated at Mount St. Helens. If you dream of a career as an Educational Park Ranger or Naturalist, we want to hear from you!

• Position is part time, 24-32 hours/week. Must be available on weekends
-16-24 hours/week at the Mount St. Helens Visitor Center & 8 hours/week at the Johnston Ridge Observatory
• Internship starts in June, end date is flexible
• Shared-housing available. Course Credit can be earned

Wanted: Computer Science Volunteers

Kelso High School is participating in a great program called TEALS that pairs computer science volunteers with teachers who are introducing computer science classes at the high school. We are looking for volunteers for next year’s classes. If you have a degree in computer science or experience in computer programming and can dedicate about 1-2 hours a week (you’ll be done by 9:00 AM) please contact brenda.sargent@kelsosd.org for more information.
