Kelso School District is holding a public hearing and two open houses to invite the community to share their thoughts on a proposed change in construction plans for replacing aging elementary schools.
Notice is hereby given, pursuant to Resolution No. 2018/19-05, that the Board of Directors (the “Board”) of Kelso School District No. 458, Cowlitz County, Washington, (the “District”) will hold a public hearing on December 17, 2018, starting at 6:00 PM, or as soon thereafter as possible, at the Ruth B. Clark Administration Building, 601 Crawford Street, Kelso, Washington. The purpose of the public hearing is to: (a) consider whether certain state or local circumstances should cause alterations to the specific expenditures from the proceeds of the District’s general obligation bonds and State of Washington financing assistance originally authorized in Resolution No. 2017/18-09; and (b) receive public testimony. If the Board determines that alterations are in the best interests of the District, the Board may, at a future public meeting, adopt a new resolution or amend Resolution No. 2017/18-09 approving specific alterations.
All residents of the District wishing to be heard should appear at the public hearing and present their views. Alternatively, or in addition, interested residents may submit their views in writing and deliver them to: Mary Beth Tack, Superintendent and Secretary to the Board of Directors, 601 Crawford Street, Kelso, WA 98626, on or before the date of the public hearing. Copies of Resolution No. 2018/19-05, which set the time and place for the public hearing will be posted on the District website, or may be obtained by contacting Beth Grambo, Executive Assistant to Superintendent, at 360.501.1927.
The district will also hold two open houses: one on Tuesday, December 18th and the other on Wednesday, January 9th; both from 6:00 to 8:00 pm in the commons area of Kelso High School. Rough renderings of proposed plans for the larger school at Lexington will be available for viewing, as will renderings for the new Wallace Elementary. A station for sharing thoughts on safety and security will also be available at both open houses.
