Internet Explorer Compatibility Issue: Are the menus not working for you?

Some users may have difficulty navigating our website menus when using the latest version Internet Explorer (IE11). This can be avoided by selecting "Compatibility mode" and adding web addresses into an exception box.. (If you are having trouble, navigate to the top and choose to show your Menu Bar. From there, select Tools.) This site works well using Google Chrome Browser which can be downloaded here:

Kelso Hires New Superintendent

The Kelso School District Board of Directors is pleased to announce they have offered the position of Superintendent to Mr. Glenn Gelbrich, beginning July 1, 2014.


Mr. Gelbrich is currently Superintendent in Juneau School District. Prior to that he has served 30 years in Oregon public schools. Learn more in this article at

Free Walk-in Vaccinations Near You!

Vaccinations are required for all K-12 students. Kaiser Permanente is providing free walk-in vaccinations available on Saturday, August 2nd for ANYONE who is uninsured or underinsured and for all Kaiser members at multiple locations. Click here for more information!

Free Summer Breakfast and Lunch Program at Kelso Schools 

This summer the Kelso School District is serving free breakfast and lunch to all children through age 18 at Wallace, Kelso High School, Coweeman, Barnes, and Butler Acres this summer. 

Schedules are available in both ENGLISH and SPANISH

As the CCSS are being implemented in most states and the District, new aligned tests are being designed for students to start taking next year. Right now millions of students are taking field tests on these exams, and by many accounts, the questions are a lot more difficult than those on previous standardized tests. How much more difficult? Parents of students enrolled at any of the Kelso School District Title I Schools (Wallace, Barnes, Catlin, or Loowit)  may click their schools individual survey link to participate in the annual Title I Parent Survey. The purpose of this survey is to provide the Kelso School District's Title I Program leadership with valuable feedback from parents of students enrolled at a Kelso Title I school.  Your opinion is valued, appreciated, and important to continued school improvement.Thank you for your time!

Barnes & Carrolls Receive Washington Achievement Awards

The Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction and the State Board of Education have granted Barnes and Carrolls Elementary Schools each Washington Achievement Awards. The Washington Achievement Award is a part of the State Board’s accountability program adopted in 2009, established to celebrate the state’s top-performing schools and to recognize achievement in multiple categories.  The award is highly selective and based on a school’s performance according to the Washington Achievement Index. Assessment for High Capability

HiCap screening of all second grade students has been completed.  If your student had qualifying scores for further testing you would have received a letter in the mail this week.  Your classroom teacher will have individual test results for your child.  Should you have questions please contact J'aime Graff at
